P.S. I LOVE MY BLACK GAY COMMUNITY: BY WC GRANT ....

BY WC GRANT

When we, the Black gay community, collectively feel that we are marginalized by the gay community at-large, Black community at-large, religious faith and mainstream society, it is very hypocritical of us to attack each other over doing positive things in our community. Of course, the ones who attack the loudest (on social media) are the ones who do little or nothing to empower us, but this also goes for the shade behind each other's backs, in the social scenes or in social media. When I produce positivity with my platform for the Black gay community, I do not expect universal praise, but I will not tolerate name-calling and threats from BLACK GAY MEN who cannot articulate their points of view like MEN, not like a bitter, jealous person who is desperate for attention by any means necessary. I pity the Black gay men whose comments I read (towards others and me) who have to resort to name-calling when they feel that cannot articulate their debates with facts and opinions when feeling defeated. That crabs-in-a-barrel, field negro mentality is even more detrimental to our community when people co-sign such behavior - over positivity, empowerment or setting the record straight. What is so terrible about encouraging that we live in our truths? What is so terrible about having a difference of opinion? What is so terrible about having my own platform to uplift whomever I want? Let's be REALLY honest, most of the uplift in the Black gay community on social media is about sex, (the illusion of) nudity or reading somebody a group of people don't like for filth. This is not a read, rant, soapbox or whatever dismissive title you want to call it because it is a wake-up call. If we want everyone outside of the Black gay community to respect us, we must respect ourselves and each other.

P.S. I LOVE MY BLACK GAY COMMUNITY and no one will silence my platform - no matter the shade, the envy, the slander and the rude comments. In other words, you're wasting your time by coming for me.
