Urban Film Review and Atlanta Cyclorama Film Series Presents: Many Steps
Date/Time: Thursday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Admission: FREE
Long known to be an important component of African American Greek life, stepping is part of a much larger historical and cultural context. Borrowing from the precision and drill-like elements of their military training, African American veterans of WWI integrated these techniques with the more percussive elements of African foot dancing and, later, the smooth moves of contemporary R&B groups like the Temptations. Present-day stepping is an amalgam of African, African American, and military movement, and it has inspired other cultures to create their own versions of stepping; particularly Latino Greek organizations. Many Steps retraces the history and evolution of this cultural phenomena.
