 In recognition of the 100th anniversary of Bayard Rustin’s birth, the Auburn Avenue Research Library (AARL), in collaboration with the local community organizations below, will screen the documentary film, "Brother Outsider: the Life of Bayard Rustin". The film chronicles the life and legacy of the activist and icon by utilizing archival footage, photographs, and recorded first-person dialogue. The film will be followed by a community discussion, led by a panel presentation, on the historical and contempora...

Craig Washington - HIV/AIDS activist (AIDS Atlanta, Positive Impact, Evolution Project), co-organizer of the annual Bayard Rustin-Lorde Community Breakfast, former co-Director of SONG and trainer for the National Coalition Builders Institute, and recipient of a Zami Audre Lorde Scholarship.

Harlon Joye - life-long Labor,civil rights and progressive activist who worked with Bayard Rustin in NYC before moving to Georgia. He is one of the co-founders of WRFG here in Atlanta.

Lucas Johnson - serves on the National Council of the Fellowship of Reconciliation (USA), the International Committee of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation, and the board of the Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America.

Ian is a 32 year old father ...

of 4, brother in a family of 8 (one brother succumbed to the same heart disease), son, nephew to a family he adores and friend to many. In 2002, Ian was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. He has had 2 pacemaker/defibrillator placements in the last several years but to no avail to his progressing disease. In April of 2011, doctors informed Ian that his heart condition would not get better, and it could not be fixed with medication or through surgery. Ian has to have a heart transplant if he wants to live for many years to come and see his children grow to adulthood.
