A poetry slam is a competition between poets performing original work judged by members of the audience. This poetry slam is organized by Ms. Wise and Jacob Winterstein.
Poetry slams feature the best of poetry, theater, hip-hop, story telling, comedy and drama. The content and styles are as diverse as the people of our great city.
Top finishers in the grand slam will represent The Pigeon and Philadelphia at the National Poetry Slam!
Come perform, watch or judge.
**Poets wishing to compete should arrive at 8:30 to put their names in the hat. All poets who put their name in the hat pay half price. At 9:00 poets names will be picked out of the hat. **

is the first poet ever to represent all FOUR New York poetry venues at the National Poetry Slam:
• Four-time Nuyorican Poets Cafe Grand Slam Finalist
• Four-time Urbana Poetry Slam Grand Slam Finalist
• Two-Time Intangible Slam Grand Slam Finalist
• 2010 Grand Slam Champion of The LouderARTS Project
• 2012 Grand Slam Champion of Jersey City Slam
Frederick is a committee member of the Urbana Poetry Slam, The louderARTS Project and the Art Director for Penmanship Books. His image has appeared in the New York Times, his poetry published in print & web-azines. “Heartbreaker” a stereoscopic short film in collaboration with Nice Shoes Creative Director Aaron Baxter was a 2011 Official Selection of the 8th Annual Big Apple Film Festival.
In 2007, Rico self published his first graphic novel, “SPY & Dicksey”©. Issue one and two are available online. He loves gummy worms and pistachio ice cream and calls Jersey City home base.
This month's Spotlight poet is Tiffany Kang from the Excelano Project.
