In collaboration with Black Mecca of the South Tours, the Auburn Avenue Research Library will host Bound for Heaven: The Legacy of Reverend J. M. Gates. Reverend Gates was the pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in the community of Rock Dale Park, Atlanta, Georgia from 1914–1945. Between the years 1926 to 1941, he recorded over 200 sermons and gospel songs for Victor, Bluebird, Okeh, Paramount and Gennett Records. This event will be facilitated by local historian, Nasir Muhammad, of Black Mecca of the South Tours.
