This year’s Summit theme is:
“Embracing Our Collective POWER to Influence Change”
The 2012 SBGA Summit will focus on mobilizing communities to recognize their collective power towards building communities that are prosperous, free of violence, and the rights of all are respected. ...
As in previous years, the Summit continues to focus on solution-based approaches to challenges facing African American lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people.
Panel discussions will range from advances in an HIV vaccine research, the economic outlook on jobs, the war on women’s reproductive rights, and the use of non violence as a tool to organize.
A special tribute will be given in honor to the life and legacy of Rudolph P. Byrd, Ph.D, James Weldon Johnson Institute for the Study of Race and Difference, Emory University who contributed to study of modern day civil rights
Panelists are being drawn from both local and national activists, artists, spiritual leaders, and elected officials across the country . A keynote is pending confirmation. Invited panelists include: Sharon Bridgforth Activist Academia University of Texas press. Michael J Brewer, social-scholar activist National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) Jeshawna C. Wholley, Senior Outreach Fellow NBJC, Shamani - Jeffrey Shikwambi ,Macon State College, William Bland, Black AIDS Institute, Imani Evans, Women Healing Women, Dr. Earl Joyner, Keesha Onyx, M. As we have continued to evolve, ITLA has also been able to provide year-round programs and events that promote community leadership, education, healthy living, self-empowerment, economic growth, and political involvement.
